Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX S Flow Cytometer
About
The Beckman Coulter CytoFLEX S is a high-performance research flow cytometer and an enhanced expansion of the CytoFLEX Platform. It supports up to four lasers and up to 13 fluorescence detection channels across multiple configurations, enabling complex multiparameter experiments without sacrificing ease of use. It features an alignment-free optical system, avalanche photodiode (APD) detectors for exceptional sensitivity, and violet side scatter for nanoparticle detection. Its compact footprint (42.5 cm × 42.5 cm × 34 cm, 23.4 kg) fits comfortably on standard lab benches. All instruments in the CytoFLEX platform are controlled with CytExpert acquisition and analysis software. The system is suitable for immunophenotyping, rare event detection, cell cycle analysis, apoptosis studies, stem cell research, microbiology, and oncology applications.
Laser Configurations
Four series are available, each with a different combination of up to four lasers:
- V-B-Y-R: Violet (405 nm) – Blue (488 nm) – Yellow-Green (561 nm) – Red (638 nm)
- N-V-B-R: Near UV (375 nm) – Violet (405 nm) – Blue (488 nm) – Red (638 nm)
- N-V-B-Y: Near UV (375 nm) – Violet (405 nm) – Blue (488 nm) – Yellow-Green (561 nm)
- V-B-R-I: Violet (405 nm) – Blue (488 nm) – Red (638 nm) – Infrared (808 nm)
Instruments can be activated with as few as four parameters and upgraded later within the series up to 13 parameters.

CytExpert Software
About
CytExpert for CytoFLEX is the acquisition and analysis software used to operate the CytoFLEX S. It features an intuitive interface with built-in templates, smart gating tools, and compensation wizards, making it accessible to both novice and experienced users. It supports experiment setup, real-time data acquisition, FCS file export, and offline analysis. For use in regulated environments, CytExpert includes tools for 21 CFR Part 11 compliance. Data can also be exported for downstream analysis in third-party software such as FlowJo or Kaluza.
