Beckman Coulter Echo 525 Liquid Handler
About
The Echo 525 Acoustic Liquid Handler is a non-contact, acoustic droplet ejection (ADE) instrument capable of transferring nanoliter to microliter volumes of liquid with high precision and minimal waste. Unlike traditional pipette-based liquid handlers, the Echo 525 uses focused acoustic energy to eject droplets as small as 2.5 nL directly from a source plate to a destination plate without tips. This eliminates cross-contamination, reduces reagent consumption, and enables highly flexible compound and assay dispensing. It is compatible with a wide range of plate formats (384-well, 1536-well) and is controlled by the Echo Liquid Handler Software.

User Notes
- Wipe off and decontaminate equipment surfaces and source/destination plates with 70% ethanol before and after use. Do not use bleach.
- Ensure source plates are filled to the recommended minimum volume to allow acoustic ejection (typically ≥ 6 µL per well for 384-well LDV plates).
- Inspect source plates for bubbles or particulates before loading as these can interfere with droplet ejection.
Echo Liquid Handler Software
About
The Echo is controlled using the Echo Liquid Handler Software (also compatible with Labcyte/Beckman Echo Survey Software and Cherry Picking workflows). The software provides a graphical interface to define source and destination plate layouts, set transfer volumes, and execute transfers. It supports survey mode (to assess fluid levels in source plates) and transfer mode. Protocols can be saved as reusable scripts and imported/exported in CSV format for easy integration with external workflows.
